Ingredients

5 cups
flour
1 1/2 cups
sugar
1 cup
oil
5 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
ground anise
1 cup
sesame
water — as needed

Method

1
Clean the sesame well, then mix it into the flour with the sugar, anise, and both raising agents.
2
Pour the oil into the center and rub it through the flour until the mixture turns to fine crumbs. Add water bit by bit until the dough becomes firm but pliable.
3
Roll the dough into ropes, cut small pieces, and press each one on a grater or similar textured surface to stamp a pattern into it.
4
Curl the shaped pieces slightly and bake at about 350°F/175°C (no temperature given in the source) until dry and lightly golden.
